The Kremlin disclosed today that Russian President Vladimir Putin has not been in contact with U.S. presidential candidate Donald Trump following the latter’s recent assassination attempt, and there are no plans for future communication.
Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov stated in response to inquiries about whether security measures for Putin would be heightened, affirming that the Russian leader is adequately protected and all necessary precautions are in place.
Additionally, the Kremlin clarified on Sunday that it does not believe the U.S. administration is directly responsible for the assassination attempt that occurred on Saturday. However, it accused the U.S. of creating an environment that could lead to such incidents.
Maria Zakharova, spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, commented on the assassination attempt, stating, “American democracy has reached a suicidal state.” She elaborated on her Telegram account that U.S. media and commentators, in their discussions of the attempt on Trump’s life, unanimously agree that it poses a threat to American democracy, emphasizing, “The threat is internal, not external. I just want to clarify that this is the American democracy, which liberalism has driven to a suicidal state.”
In a related statement, Dmitry Medvedev, Deputy Chairman of Russia’s Security Council, remarked on the assassination attempt, suggesting that Trump had already won the election race by surviving it. Medvedev shared his thoughts on the X platform, accompanied by a photo of Trump, stating, “He has already won, provided he is not assassinated.”
