A U.S. citizen was injured by one of several rockets launched into Israel from Lebanon by Hezbollah, according to the U.S. embassy in Israel.
Embassy officials reported receiving information about the injured American, confirming that the individual is not employed by the U.S. government.
The embassy is currently working to gather more details about the injured person.
The 31-year-old man sustained shrapnel injuries to his upper body and was taken to the operating room Sunday evening, as stated by the Galilee Medical Center.
The medical center also reported that two other individuals, a soldier and a civilian, were injured by the rocket fire and have been admitted to the surgical department.
The Israeli military confirmed that Hezbollah fired dozens of rockets and anti-tank missiles toward northern Israel on Sunday, resulting in the soldier’s light injuries and subsequent evacuation for treatment.
The two civilians, including the American, were hit by shrapnel. Smoke was seen billowing from the site of an Israeli airstrike on the Lebanese village of Jebbain, near the Israel-Lebanon border, on May 25, 2024, amidst ongoing clashes between Israeli forces and Hezbollah fighters.
A spokesperson for the medical center earlier informed CNN that the American was in “serious but stable condition.”
The spokesperson added that the patient had to be anesthetized and placed on a ventilator upon admission to the shock room.
In response, the Israeli military conducted strikes on Hezbollah military installations. Hezbollah issued multiple statements on Sunday claiming responsibility for firing rockets at several Israeli military targets.
This escalation followed an Israeli airstrike in northern Lebanon on Saturday, which the Israeli military stated resulted in the death of a senior Hezbollah operative.
