A White House official stated that President Joe Biden is expected to hold a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in Washington in late July. Netanyahu will visit the American capital to address Congress regarding the Gaza conflict.
Netanyahu is scheduled to speak before a joint session of the House and Senate on July 24.
CNN was the first to report the news, noting that logistical details for the anticipated White House meeting have not yet been finalized.
This comes amid accusations from 12 former US government officials who resigned over American support for Israel during the Gaza conflict. They accused President Biden’s administration on Tuesday of “undeniable complicity” in the killing of Palestinians in the region.
In a joint statement, the former officials claimed the administration violates US laws by supporting Israel and finding loopholes to continue weapon shipments to its ally.
The White House and State Department had no immediate comment on the statement.
Criticism of Israel’s approach in Gaza and US military and diplomatic support for its ally is intensifying, with the conflict claiming nearly 38,000 lives and causing a humanitarian crisis.
The resignations of these US officials reflect internal government opposition to its support for Israel. Washington calls for the protection of civilians in Gaza and urges Israel to improve aid access.
Among the signatories of the joint statement were former members of the Departments of State, Education, Interior, White House, and the military.
