In a significant display of support, Saudi Arabia has pledged a financial contribution of $10 million to Lebanon through the King Salman Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center.
The announcement was made during the signing of a cooperation memorandum between the King Salman Center and the Higher Relief Committee at the Grand Serail in Beirut.
Saudi Ambassador to Lebanon, Walid Bukhari, officially declared the financial contribution, emphasizing Saudi Arabia’s commitment to Lebanon’s stability and support in various fields.
Caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati expressed gratitude for the contribution, stating, “This occasion reflects Saudi Arabia’s dedication to Lebanon’s stability and its support across all sectors.”
He further praised Saudi Arabia’s rapid development and leadership, adding, “Those who have transformed the Kingdom into a leading and productive nation in a short period can undoubtedly extend their support to their brothers in Lebanon.”
Mikati highlighted the importance of Saudi Arabia’s continued support, hoping it will help Lebanon rise and recover from its challenges.
The Kingdom recently urged its citizens to leave Lebanon immediately, as reported by the Saudi Press Agency (SPA).
This call from the Saudi embassy in Lebanon follows recent developments in southern Lebanon and reiterates the previous travel ban to Lebanon for Saudi nationals.
The statement from SPA comes after Germany also advised its citizens on Wednesday to leave Lebanon due to escalating violence risks between Israel and Hezbollah.
Since October 7, following a Palestinian militant attack by Hamas on Israel, there have been near-daily cross-border exchanges of fire between Israel and Hezbollah, an Iran-backed ally of Hamas in Lebanon. Tensions have continued to rise with increasing exchanges of fire in recent days.
