On Monday, the Israeli army released 50 Palestinian prisoners from East Qarara in Khan Younis, located in the southern Gaza Strip.

Video footage showed several prisoners in poor health and physical condition following their release this morning after months of detention in Israeli prisons.

The Gaza Government Media Office stated that “the issue of detainees held by the occupation is a symbol of the crimes committed by the occupation,” noting that “the occupation seeks to improve its international image by releasing the director of Al-Shifa Hospital but cannot substantiate its claims against the healthcare system in the Gaza Strip.”

Earlier today, the Israeli army also released Dr. Mohamed Abu Salmiya, the director of the Al-Shifa Medical Complex, who had been detained since last November.

In his first statement after his release, Dr. Abu Salmiya said, “The conditions in the prisons are tragic and very difficult. Both old and new prisoners are experiencing the worst conditions since the Nakba of 1948. They suffer from a lack of food and water and face physical abuse.” He called for decisive action from the resistance and Arab nations to secure the freedom of the prisoners.

A touching video clip captured a poignant moment as one of the released prisoners embraced his children after being freed.
