Egyptian Foreign Minister Sameh Shoukry has condemned Israel for the appropriation of humanitarian aid destined for Rafah in Palestine.

In a phone call with Sigrid Kaag, the UN Coordinator for Humanitarian Affairs and Reconstruction in Gaza, Shoukry expressed Egypt’s firm stance against the seizure of aid.

The minister criticized Israel for its failure to protect the aid and ensure its delivery to the intended recipients.

Egyptian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Ahmed Abu Zeid highlighted that the call aimed to discuss the humanitarian situation in Gaza, ahead of Kaag’s monthly briefing to the UN Security Council.

The conversation focused on the obstacles Israel imposes on aid delivery and the escalating humanitarian crisis in the region.

Minister Shoukry sought Kaag’s insights on strategies to alleviate the severe humanitarian crisis faced by Palestinian civilians in Gaza.

They also discussed the impact of Israel’s restrictions on truck movements at border crossings and the current state of the Rafah crossing following Israeli destruction of the Palestinian side.

The dialogue concluded with an agreement to maintain ongoing coordination and consultation regarding the humanitarian situation in Gaza.
