Libyan National Army (LNA) Commander Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar welcomed a delegation from the United States, led by Special Envoy to Libya Richard Norland and Chargé d’Affaires Jeremy Brint, at his office in the General Command headquarters in Al-Rajma.

According to a statement from the General Command of the LNA on Facebook, the discussions centered on the latest political developments in Libya.

Both parties emphasized the need for continued efforts to prepare the country for presidential and parliamentary elections, supporting the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) initiatives to reach a consensus that would lead to these elections.

The visiting delegation highlighted the vital role of the Libyan armed forces in maintaining security and stability.

They also underscored the importance of joint coordination and cooperation between the LNA and the United States in combating terrorism and extremism.

Libya has been in turmoil since the 2011 overthrow of Muammar Gaddafi, leading to a fragmented political landscape and ongoing conflict.

The Libyan National Army, led by Khalifa Haftar, controls the eastern part of the country, while the internationally recognized Government of National Unity (GNU) holds sway in the west.

Efforts to unify the country through elections have faced numerous obstacles, including political divisions and security concerns. The involvement of international actors like the United States and the United Nations aims to facilitate a peaceful resolution and the establishment of a stable, democratic Libya.
