The European Union (EU) High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy, Josep Borrell, announced a phone call today with Jordanian Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi to discuss the ongoing situation in Gaza.

The announcement was reported by the Italian news agency AKI.

Borrell highlighted in a post on the platform X (formerly Twitter) that the conversation focused on “the ongoing disaster in Gaza and the worsening situation in the West Bank.”

He added, “We share deep concerns that full access to humanitarian aid remains denied, hostages have not yet been released, and fighting continues despite the binding orders of the International Court of Justice (ICJ) and the unimplemented plan by U.S. President Joe Biden.”

Borrell emphasized, “We will continue to work closely together to achieve a ceasefire, ensure humanitarian aid access, secure the release of hostages, uphold international law and human rights, and promote accountability and peace.”

He concluded by expressing his anticipation for the upcoming EU-Jordan Partnership Council meeting next month, which is aimed at deepening cooperation and partnership between the EU and Jordan.

The Health Ministry in Gaza reported that the death toll from Israeli attacks since October has reached 37,431, with 85,653 people injured.

In the past 24 hours, Israeli forces conducted four separate attacks described as “massacres,” resulting in 35 deaths and 130 injuries, according to the ministry.

Rescuers are struggling to reach many trapped under rubble and on roads in the besieged enclave.

Despite a UN Security Council resolution calling for an immediate cease-fire, Israel continues its offensive, drawing international condemnation.
