The Tunisian National Railway Company has successfully conducted a trial run for the train service between Tunisia and Algeria, marking the resumption of this cross-border connection after a 28-year interruption, which had been in effect since 1996.

Tawfiq Boufaid, the General Director of the Tunisian National Railway Company, confirmed the success of the trial during a phone interview on the Tunisian radio program “Sbah El Ward” broadcasted by Jawhara FM.

Boufaid stated, “The journey was undertaken by an Algerian train starting from the city of Annaba and lasted for eight hours.”

Boufaid further revealed that an official decision to commence regular services will be made in the coming weeks.

He mentioned that the travel schedule will initially include one round trip per day, operated by an Algerian train.

Initially, the route will be limited to Annaba, with plans to extend to other parts of Algeria in the future.
