Images and videos emerging from the village of Wad al-Noura in Al-Jazirah state, Sudan, have dominated social media conversations among Sudanese users over the past few hours.

On Thursday, horrifying footage of dozens of bodies lined up for burial surfaced online, following the Sudanese Sovereignty Council’s confirmation of a “massacre” against civilians in the village.

The Sovereignty Council accused the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), which have been engaged in conflict with the army for nearly 14 months, of committing this “atrocious massacre” against unarmed civilians in Wad al-Noura.

More than 200 people were killed in an attack carried out by the RSF in Al-Jazira State in central Sudan, and the attack sparked a widespread wave of denunciation and denunciation from various Sudanese parties.

The Sudanese Congress Party also reported that over 100 people were killed in an attack by the RSF on the village.

Additionally, the party alleged that the attacking forces engaged in extensive looting of property and vehicles belonging to the villagers.

In response, the RSF denied committing any massacres, asserting that they had repelled an attempt by the army to attack the village.

In a statement released early today, the RSF claimed that the army had amassed large forces in the three largest camps west of Al-Managil, in Wad al-Noura, to launch an assault on Jabal Awliya in the capital, Khartoum.

The RSF also alleged that they attacked these camps, which reportedly housed army personnel, General Intelligence Service operatives, and the Al-Zubair bin Al-Awam battalion affiliated with Islamist groups, in the west, south, and north of Wad al-Noura.

The RSF, led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo, has controlled Al-Jazirah state since December 2023. The conflict between the army, led by Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, and the RSF erupted suddenly in mid-April 2023, following weeks of rising tension while military and civilian parties were finalizing an internationally backed political process.

Despite numerous international and regional efforts to bring both sides to the negotiation table and reach an agreement to restore the country to a peaceful democratic path, all attempts have so far failed.
