After a 13-year absence, Qatar is set to participate in the 21st edition of the Buildex Construction Fair.

The event will be held at the Damascus Fairgrounds in the Syrian capital and will feature 320 local, regional, and international brands, covering various sectors of the construction and building industry.

Alaa Hilal, General Manager of the Arab Group for Exhibitions, told Sputnik that this year’s edition is distinguished by participation from Arab and international entities, including China, Russia, Algeria, Saudi Arabia, Iran, the UAE, Jordan, Lebanon, and Qatar.

Hilal emphasized the significance of the wide and diverse participation of local companies from both the public and private sectors, as well as international firms, in driving economic progress and construction activity in Syria.

According to information obtained by Sputnik, Qatar’s participation this year will be through Algerian Qatari Steel (AQS).

The company, established in 2013 as a result of the Algerian-Qatari partnership, has a founding cost of $1.2 billion and an annual production capacity exceeding 4 million tons.

This collaboration exemplifies Qatar’s “Vision 2030” development plan, which aims to expand its investments abroad.

The Buildex Fair, under the patronage of the Syrian Ministry of Public Works and Housing, covers various specializations in the construction sector.

This includes building materials, construction supplies, stone, marble, paints, insulation materials, HVAC equipment, alternative energy solutions, water technologies, sustainability, home and office furniture, real estate development offices, engineering offices, safety and security systems, and electrical and lighting equipment, among others.

Hilal highlighted that Buildex has solidified its position as a crucial gateway for Syrian industries to potential foreign markets and a focal point for companies and investors interested in the Syrian market.

He described it as a Syrian success story that has grown in prestige and stability over 21 editions, leaving a lasting impression on all Syrians.

The 21st Buildex Construction Fair marks a significant return for Qatar, highlighting the event’s importance in fostering international cooperation and economic growth within Syria’s construction sector.
