The spokesperson for the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Nasser Kanaani, announced on Monday that Saudi Arabia will soon reopen its embassy in the Iranian capital, Tehran, according to Iran’s state news agency, IRNA.
Kanaani made the statement during a weekly press conference in Tehran, but did not give a specific date for the reopening of the Saudi embassy.
He also indicated that Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi will visit Saudi Arabia to enhance bilateral relations, but the date of the visit has not been set yet.
Iran reopened its embassy in Riyadh, as well as its consulate general and its mission to the Organization of Islamic Cooperation in Jeddah, in early June.
The reopening of the Saudi embassy in Tehran had been delayed due to the poor condition of the embassy building, which was damaged during protests in 2016.
On Sunday, the Iranian Students News Agency reported that Saudi Arabia is preparing to reopen its embassy and that the necessary equipment for the embassy to carry out its normal duties would soon be transferred to a hotel in Tehran where embassy staff are currently working.
