Kuwait has reaffirmed its commitment to continue delivering humanitarian and relief aid to the Palestinian people, while also praising the crucial role of the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) in supporting and assisting Palestinians.
During an international meeting on Palestine in Brussels, Kuwait’s Ambassador to Belgium and head of its missions to the European Union (EU) and NATO, Nawaf Al-Anzi, emphasized Kuwait’s dedication to providing humanitarian and relief assistance to the Palestinian people.
Al-Anzi highlighted UNRWA’s pivotal, indispensable role as the backbone of the humanitarian response in Gaza, noting that Kuwait recently made a voluntary contribution of 30 million U.S. dollars to the agency.
According to the Kuwait News Agency, Al-Anzi welcomed the recent decision by Norway, Spain, and Ireland to recognize the state of Palestine and expressed hope that other countries would view similar decisions more positively.
He also referenced a recent ruling by the International Court of Justice, which ordered Israel to immediately cease its military operations in the Palestinian city of Rafah.
Al-Anzi stressed the need to implement UN Security Council Resolution 2720, which calls for the delivery of aid to the Gaza Strip and the immediate, safe, and unimpeded delivery of humanitarian aid, as well as creating conditions necessary for a ceasefire in Gaza.
The meeting, chaired by Norwegian Foreign Minister Espen Barth Eide and hosted by the EU High Representative Josep Borrell, was attended by Palestinian Prime Minister Mohammad Shtayyeh and focused on international cooperation for Palestine.
