Algerian Foreign Minister, Ahmed Attaf, called on, Monday, for intensified consultations with Italy to address the complex crises in the region, particularly the Libyan issue.

During the opening of the second session of the Algerian-Italian strategic dialogue in the Algerian capital, Attaf emphasized his country’s commitment to “intensify bilateral political dialogue to solidify strategic agreements that unite the positions of both countries regarding the rapid developments on the shores of the Mediterranean Sea.”

He further highlighted the diligent efforts to contribute to resolving regional and international crises and promoting security and stability whenever the means and conditions allow.

Attaf urged the Italian side to engage in “more dialogue, coordination, fruitful consultation, and constructive efforts,” especially in light of the challenges arising from deteriorating security conditions in the Sahel region and the complex crises in Libya, Mali, and Sudan.

He also mentioned the repercussions of the Russian-Ukrainian crisis, which cast its shadow over the entire world.
In March, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio called for high-level political coordination with Algeria regarding three key regional issues of vital importance to both countries, including supporting Tunisia and resolving the crises in Libya and the Sahel region.
