Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky has extended an invitation to US President Joe Biden and Chinese President Xi Jinping to participate in a peace summit scheduled to take place in Switzerland next month. In a compelling video message recorded in English against the backdrop of the war-torn eastern city of Kharkiv, Zelensky made a heartfelt plea to the leaders.
In the video, Zelensky directly addressed both Biden and Xi, urging them to support and lead the summit with their presence. “Please support the peace summit with your personal leadership and participation,” Zelensky implored, emphasizing the critical role of their involvement in ensuring the success of the summit’s objectives.
The Ukrainian president highlighted the importance of having leaders at the summit who can ensure that commitments are upheld and who are resistant to potential deceit by Russia. He stressed that the “efforts of the global majority are the best guarantee that all commitments will be fulfilled.”
The peace conference, aimed at addressing the ongoing conflict in Ukraine, is set to be held at a luxury resort near Lucerne from June 15-16. The Swiss government is facilitating this crucial gathering at the behest of Ukraine, reflecting the international effort to find a resolution to the war.
