The Tunisian Embassy in France has officially refuted allegations regarding the presence of Wagner Group members in Djerba. These claims were broadcast by the LCI news channel on its program “24 Heures Pujadas” on Thursday, May 23, 2024.

The embassy’s press release firmly denied these reports, criticizing the news channel for disseminating what it described as disinformation.

According to the embassy, LCI has continued to circulate unfounded information about Tunisia without prior verification from official sources.

This denial comes amid heightened concerns expressed in other media. For instance, on May 19, La Repubblica reported on the presence of Russian military aircraft in Tunisia, citing an anonymous US State Department representative who voiced apprehensions over Russia’s actions in Africa.

The report included claims about military equipment being unloaded and personnel potentially being present in Djerba, which could fuel regional conflicts and encourage irregular migration.

These developments highlight ongoing international tensions and the critical nature of verifying such sensitive information through reliable sources before dissemination.
