A general strike and public mourning engulfed the northern West Bank district of Jenin today, Saturday, in honor of Islam Khmaisy, a leader of the Jenin Brigade, who was assassinated by Israeli forces in an airstrike last night.
The Israeli military conducted the airstrike targeting a house in the Al-Damaj neighborhood of the Jenin camp, resulting in one martyr and several injuries described as stable.
The Israeli army, in a statement, claimed responsibility for the assassination of the young Islam Khmaisy, accusing him of carrying out the “Harmish” operation west of Jenin last year, in which a settler was killed.
The Israeli newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth reported that the airstrike targeted a cell preparing for an imminent attack, describing the raid as unusual, as the Israeli military rarely uses airstrikes in the West Bank since October 7 last year.
