The United Arab Emirates has expressed its welcome for the United Nations General Assembly’s significant majority vote in favor of granting full membership to the State of Palestine, considering it a historic step towards peace and the realization of a two-state solution.

In a statement issued on Saturday, the UAE Ministry of Foreign Affairs affirmed that the UAE, which submitted the resolution granting Palestine eligibility for full membership in the UN during an emergency special session of the General Assembly as the head of the Arab Group for the month of May, remains steadfast in its commitment to promoting peace and justice, safeguarding the rights of the Palestinian people, and establishing an independent and sovereign Palestinian state in accordance with international legitimacy and relevant agreements aimed at ending the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

The UAE emphasized its consistent call on the international community to enhance all regional and international efforts aimed at achieving peace and a two-state solution.

On Friday, the UN General Assembly voted overwhelmingly in support of Palestine’s membership request in the UN, in a symbolic resolution due to the US veto in the Security Council.

The resolution, which stipulates “the Palestinians’ joining the organization” along with granting them additional rights as an observer state, received support from 143 members, with 9 members objecting and 25 abstaining from voting.
