US Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin clarified on Thursday that there are currently no indications that Hamas is planning an attack on US troops in Gaza. During a press briefing, Austin emphasized the unpredictable nature of combat zones and assured that precautions are being taken to protect military personnel.
“I don’t discuss intelligence information at the podium. However, I see no active intent of such threats at this time,” he remarked, acknowledging the inherent risks in a combat zone.
Additionally, John Kirby, White House national security spokesman, announced that a maritime pier, constructed by the US military to expedite the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza, is expected to be operational within a few days. This development comes despite the adverse weather conditions that have delayed preparations.
The United States has urged both Israel and Hamas to ensure that humanitarian aid intended for Gaza civilians is not obstructed. This call to action follows an incident where a Jordanian aid shipment was attacked by Israeli settlers and subsequently redirected by Palestinian militants.
