A drone attack targeted the Kormor gas field in Kurdistan, Iraq, resulting in the deaths of four people and causing significant damage that could affect electricity supplies, according to Beshwa Hormanee, the official spokesperson for the regional government.

In a statement, Hormanee disclosed that the attack, which took place on Friday evening, killed four Yemeni workers and severely damaged the facility.

He stressed the need for repeated attacks like this to cease, urging the federal government of Iraq to identify and bring the perpetrators to justice to prevent future incidents.

Earlier, the Kurdish media network Rudaw reported that the drone strike not only resulted in casualties but also halted the supply of electricity from power stations. Jamjamal Mayor Rmak Ramadan told the media that the drone-led assault killed three people and injured three others, highlighting the ongoing vulnerability of infrastructure in conflict zones.

Located in the village of Kormor within the Jamjamal district of Sulaymaniyah Province, the gas field is a critical infrastructure component for the region.

Rudaw noted that the Kurdistan Regional Government’s Ministry of Electricity announced the attack had halted power station supplies, causing a loss of approximately 2,500 megawatts of production.

A senior Kurdish political source and an advisor to the Prime Minister of the Kurdistan Regional Government confirmed to Reuters that the production at the field had also been halted.

No group has claimed responsibility for the attack as of yet.

This incident underscores the escalating tensions and the impact of regional instability on critical energy infrastructure, with broader implications for Iraq’s power supply and security dynamics.
