The United Nations has stated that the number of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in Sudan due to the ongoing conflict between the army and the Rapid Support Forces has reached over 2.1 million people since the outbreak of the conflict on April 15th. Among them, 1.4 million individuals have fled from the capital, Khartoum.

The UN also reported that over 560,000 people have crossed the borders to neighboring countries, with the majority seeking refuge in Egypt, Chad, and South Sudan.

Meanwhile, fighting continues in Sudan despite a fragile ceasefire, as is customary. The army and the Rapid Support Forces separately announced the ceasefire on the occasion of Eid al-Adha.

On Friday, the army announced launching airstrikes on Rapid Support Forces’ positions, stating that it has initiated operations against them in Khartoum and Omdurman.

According to Agence France-Presse, the capital city of Sudan witnessed a “massive explosion” near the army headquarters on Thursday, shaking homes kilometers away, while the clashes persisted on the second day of Eid al-Adha, according to residents’ accounts.
