Lebanon’s Hezbollah movement declared it conducted drone attacks on two northern Israeli bases on Tuesday in retaliation for the killing of a fighter, which Israel deemed “significant”.
In the aftermath of Hamas’s October 7 attack on Israel, sparking conflict in Gaza, Hezbollah has engaged in near-daily cross-border skirmishes with the Israeli army. However, recent days have seen an escalation in Hezbollah’s rocket assaults, extending beyond their usual border targets.
Hezbollah announced in a statement that it executed “a coordinated aerial assault using decoy and explosive drones” on two Israeli bases north of Acre. Israel, however, stated that the drones did not reach their intended targets.
The attack, Hezbollah claimed, was a response to an earlier Israeli drone strike that resulted in the death of one of its members in southern Lebanon.
Israel’s military reported that it had “successfully intercepted two suspicious aerial targets off the northern coast”.
