During the United Nations Security Council session, Algeria’s Foreign Minister Ahmed Attiaf decried what he termed a genocidal war in Gaza, describing it as part of an ongoing effort by Israel to realize its grand national project.
Attiaf reiterated Algeria’s call for expediting Palestine’s full membership in the UN. The resolution presented to the Security Council last Tuesday recommends that the UN General Assembly grant full membership status to the State of Palestine.
For Palestine to achieve full membership in the UN, it needs the approval of at least 9 out of the 15 members of the Security Council, without any veto from the permanent members.
The situation has cast a spotlight on Gaza’s resilience, exposing the overt and covert intentions of the Israeli occupier, which, according to Attiaf, converge on the elimination of the Palestinian cause and undermining of Palestine’s national project.
The ongoing war of extermination in Gaza, the stranglehold on the West Bank, Israeli settlement policies, and the annexation of Palestinian lands are all part of a broader and more dangerous Israeli strategy aimed at reviving and embodying the grand Israel project, which seeks to dismantle the Palestinian state’s foundational elements.
