Saudi Crown Prince and Prime Minister, Prince Mohammed bin Salman, discussed with UAE President Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed the ramifications of the recent military escalation in the region and its potential threat to security and stability.

In a telephone call on Tuesday, both leaders emphasized the importance of exerting efforts to prevent the worsening of the situation and to spare the region the risks of war.

The region has experienced unprecedented tension in recent days following Israel’s vow to retaliate against an Iranian attack, which in turn was a response to an Israeli airstrike on April 1 targeting the Iranian consulate building in Damascus, resulting in the death of two senior generals from Iran’s Quds Force in the Revolutionary Guards.

On Saturday evening, Iran launched its first direct attack on Israel using dozens of drones and cruise missiles.

This attack followed the killing of a senior Revolutionary Guards commander, believed to have been targeted by Israel in an attack on the Iranian embassy compound in Damascus last week.
