French authorities jailed 150 people in a second night of violence after the killing of a teenager by police, the interior minister announced on Thursday, calling the unrest “intolerable”.

“A night of intolerable violence against symbols of the republic, with town halls, schools, and police stations set on fire or attacked,” Interior Minister Gerald Darmanin wrote on Twitter.

Darmanin voiced support for the police but affirmed that it is a shame on those who did not call for calm.

A 17-year-old driver was shot by police near Paris during a traffic check on Tuesday.

On his part, President Emmanuel Macron said the riots were “unjustifiable”.

Following the incident, clashes were reported across suburbs of Paris but some of the most violent confrontations were in Nanterre, where the teenager was shot dead.

The violence was particularly concentrated around the Pablo-Picasso district there, where young people took to the streets after sunset.

“They’re backing off! Let’s go guys, let’s go, death to cops!” one yelled, while various cars and rubbish bins were set alight.
