British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak has issued a statement on Sunday, calling for an immediate cessation of the war being waged by Israel on the Gaza Strip since October 7th.
Expressing deep concern, Sunak stated that Britain is “shocked by the bloodshed” in Gaza and demanded an end to the ongoing conflict. He emphasized the urgent need for the release of hostages and the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid into the region.
Sunak specifically addressed the tragic incident involving the killing of seven relief workers, including three Britons, who were part of the World Central Kitchen (WCK) organization. They were targeted in an Israeli drone strike last Monday while delivering food aid to those in need.
“The whole of the UK is shocked by the bloodshed and appalled by the killing of brave British heroes,” Sunak remarked.
Highlighting the dire situation faced by children in Gaza, Sunak stressed the necessity of an immediate humanitarian ceasefire. He emphasized that such a ceasefire must lead to a sustainable, long-term cessation of hostilities, viewing it as the most effective way to secure the release of hostages and ensure the delivery of essential aid to the region.
