A missile landed near a commercial vessel in the Gulf of Aden on Sunday, according to Britain’s Maritime Trade Operations agency. Fortunately, there were no reports of damage or injuries stemming from the incident.

The agency, responsible for monitoring maritime security incidents, revealed that the master of the unidentified vessel notified authorities of the event. The missile reportedly impacted the water close to the vessel’s port quarter, approximately 59 nautical miles southwest of the Yemeni port city of Aden.

In a brief statement, the agency confirmed that no damage to the vessel was reported, and all crew members were safe. However, further details regarding the incident were not provided.

This occurrence comes against the backdrop of ongoing military operations in the region by the Houthi rebel group in Yemen since November 2023. The Houthis have been targeting ships in the Red Sea and the Bab al-Mandab Strait, a vital maritime chokepoint. The group claims these naval attacks are directed at vessels allegedly linked to Israel or destined for Israeli ports.
