Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the UAE, has declared health investment a top priority in the nation’s developmental strategy and vision for a better future for its people.

In a statement made on the social media platform “X” on Sunday, Sheikh Mohammed bin Zayed reiterated the country’s commitment to continue collaborating with international partners to support global health and disease control efforts.

This commitment is rooted in the belief that illness represents a significant barrier to development, peace, and prosperity worldwide.

The UAE’s federal and local health authorities are commemorating World Health Day, which falls today, Sunday, April 7th, under the theme “Health is My Right,” chosen by the World Health Organization (WHO) for this year. The theme aims to highlight the right to health for all members of society.

World Health Day is one of the most significant observances for the WHO, focusing on raising awareness about global health priorities.

The healthcare sector in the UAE has witnessed substantial growth and transformation over the past few decades, becoming one of the most advanced in the region.

The UAE government views healthcare as a pivotal sector in its development agenda, investing heavily in infrastructure, technology, and human resources to ensure high standards of health services for its residents and citizens.

Infrastructure and Investment

The UAE boasts a mix of public and private healthcare facilities, including hospitals, clinics, and specialized centres, equipped with state-of-the-art technology and staffed by highly qualified professionals.

The government’s significant investment in healthcare infrastructure aims to make the UAE a leading destination for medical tourism, attracting patients from around the world.

Healthcare Policy and Vision

The UAE’s Vision 2021 and subsequent strategies emphasize the importance of preventive medicine, public health, and innovation in healthcare delivery.

These strategies focus on achieving a world-class healthcare system, enhancing the quality of life, and reducing the prevalence of lifestyle-related diseases.

Regulatory Framework

The healthcare system is regulated by the Ministry of Health and Prevention (MOHAP) at the federal level, along with health authorities in individual emirates, such as the Dubai Health Authority (DHA) and the Abu Dhabi Department of Health (DOH).

These bodies oversee the licensing of healthcare professionals and facilities, quality control, and the implementation of health policies.

Digital Transformation

The UAE is at the forefront of incorporating digital health solutions, including electronic health records (EHR), telemedicine, and AI-driven diagnostic tools, to improve patient care and operational efficiency.
The country aims to leverage technology to facilitate access to healthcare services, enhance patient outcomes, and optimize resource utilization.
