Swedish police have granted a permit for a protest where the organizer intends to burn a Quran outside Stockholm’s main mosque on the first day of the Muslim holiday Eid al-Adha.

The decision, according to the police, was based on the assessment that the security risks associated with the burning did not meet the criteria for rejecting the request under current laws.

This approval follows a recent ruling by a Swedish appeals court that overturned the police’s previous denial of permits for two demonstrations, which also included Quran burnings, citing security concerns.

The previous incident of Quran burning outside Turkey’s embassy in January resulted in widespread protests, calls for a boycott of Swedish goods, and further complications in Sweden’s bid for NATO membership.
