In a significant diplomatic exchange, President of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mohammed El-Menfi, received a formal letter from Tunisian President Kais Saied on Saturday evening, delivered by Tunisian Ambassador to Libya Al-Asaad Al-Ajili.
According to a statement released by the media office of the Presidential Council, the meeting delved into issues of mutual cooperation and joint coordination, focusing on bolstering the Maghreb space to achieve economic and political integration among member states.
Both parties engaged in discussions concerning the depth of bilateral relations between Libya and Tunisia across various domains, notably in politics and security, with a specific emphasis on securing borders to ensure freedom of movement and transit between the two sides.
The dialogue comes against the backdrop of recent developments, including the suspension of movement at the Ras Ajdir crossing on the Libyan-Tunisian border on March 19th. This suspension followed a decision by the designated Minister of Interior in the Government of National Unity, Emad Al-Tarabulsi, to close the crossing pending further instructions.
