In a development marking a partial restoration of normalcy, phone communication services resumed in parts of Omdurman on Sunday after experiencing hours of disruption. However, clashes between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF) continued to escalate in the city.
Following a sudden shutdown of telecommunications networks across Sudan on February 7th, the Sudanese Mobile Phone Company (Zain) and Sudani Company announced the partial restoration of services in some areas of Omdurman by mid-March, particularly in the relatively secure regions of the north and east.
Reports from users conveyed to the Arab World News Agency indicated that Sudani network services exhibited weak signals in the northern regions of Omdurman, while interruptions persisted with Zain and MTN services.
While the telecommunications companies refrained from divulging the reasons behind the abrupt service disruption on Saturday night and Sunday in Omdurman, both sides involved in the conflict had previously exchanged accusations of deliberately cutting off communications during clashes in February.
Simultaneously, the western parts of Omdurman witnessed intense battles as the Sudanese army endeavored to advance toward the Umbada suburb in the west, subsequent to seizing control of the eastern and central areas of the city towards the end of last month.
