In line with Article 150 of the Egyptian constitution, there are expectations for President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to appoint one or more deputies, as predicted by Egyptian parliamentarian Mustafa Bakry. Speculation suggests this move will likely follow the president’s swearing-in ceremony scheduled for next week.
Bakry highlighted that Article 150 of the constitution empowers the president to appoint deputies, delineating their responsibilities and granting them authority in certain areas. He indicated the likelihood of the government’s resignation following the president’s oath-taking. Additionally, Bakry anticipated the resignation of all governors and significant ministerial reshuffling, particularly within the economic sector.
Following the oath ceremony on 2 April, President Sisi is expected to address the House of Representatives, outlining his vision for the upcoming phase and his third term, extending until April 2, 2030.
The speech is anticipated to cover various aspects, including political, economic, security, and military matters, as well as domestic and foreign policies. Bakry emphasized a course correction across all fronts to enhance societal involvement in decision-making, establish a solid economic foundation, and broaden private sector participation.
The National Electoral Authority declared the results of the 2024 presidential elections on December 18 last year, confirming President Sisi’s victory for a third term.
According to the authority, President Sisi secured 39,702,451 votes, representing 89.6% of the total valid votes. His closest competitor, Hazem Omar, received 1,986,352 votes, accounting for 4.5% of the total.
