A group of Afghans, who have secured guarantees for entry into Germany, arrived in Berlin late Thursday evening as part of a program to receive individuals who may be targeted by the Afghan Taliban government.

German immigration authorities informed the German news agency (DPA) today, Friday, that the plane departed from the Pakistani capital, Islamabad. However, they did not disclose the number of Afghans on board.

According to the Foreign Ministry, approval for passengers to enter Germany was granted under initiatives to protect particularly vulnerable groups from Afghanistan.

The Foreign Ministry stated that approximately 33,000 people have entered Germany since the initiation of multiple admission procedures following the fall of Kabul into the hands of the Taliban in August 2021.

The arrival of this Afghan group underscores Germany’s commitment to providing refuge for those facing potential persecution under the new regime in Afghanistan.

The move also highlights ongoing efforts by European nations to address the humanitarian crisis stemming from the Taliban’s takeover of the country.

Earlier in January, the United Nations (UN) confirmed that the Taliban government in Afghanistan has recently forced hundreds of women to leave their jobs, alleging non-compliance with the Sharia law requirements imposed on women throughout the country.

According to the UN Assistance Mission in Afghanistan, this job termination has been documented in its latest human rights report covering the last quarter of 2023. Afghanistan is a country where millions of people urgently require humanitarian aid, as reported by Alhurra channel.
