The Turkish Ministry of Defense announced the death of a ground service crew member following the crash of an “F-5” military training aircraft in the central province of Konya on Thursday. The defense ministry disclosed on the “X” platform (formerly Twitter) that the pilot survived after managing to eject from the aircraft and was subsequently taken to the hospital.

According to the Turkish Anadolu News Agency, the aircraft crashed on a runway at an airbase, resulting in the death of a maintenance staff member at the site. The precise cause of the incident, which occurred at 12:51 (0951 GMT), was not immediately clear. The Turkish Radio and Television Corporation (TRT) broadcast images of smoke rising above the airbase.

A recent plane crash reported involved a single-engine Piper aircraft flown by Adrien James Valentine, 21, who crashed over Paynes Prairie after experiencing difficulties with his instruments and getting lost in adverse weather conditions. Despite his efforts to correct the situation, including making several 360-degree turns and climbs and descents, the plane descended rapidly and crashed into a heavily wooded area, leading to Valentine’s tragic death.

In recent incidents across Europe, a light aircraft crash in the Swiss mountains near the Ponts-de-Martel area, close to the French border, resulted in the deaths of three people, including the pilot and two passengers. The crash, which took place in the morning, occurred in a forest and presented challenges for rescue operations due to the steep terrain. The cause of the crash was not immediately clear, prompting an investigation.

Another tragic event involved a crash in Malta, where a plane carrying five individuals, including French customs officials, went down shortly after takeoff. The officials were on a mission related to monitoring people smuggling across the Mediterranean. This crash, Malta’s worst peacetime air disaster, occurred during takeoff from Malta International Airport. The aircraft involved was a light aircraft, and the crash resulted in an immediate, intense fire, complicating rescue efforts and investigation into the incident.
