The Lebanese militant group Hezbollah announced on Monday that it had launched a drone attack on an Israeli air defense base in the Golan Heights, territory occupied by Israel.
Hezbollah claimed the rare attack, conducted with four drones, struck its targets with precision, stating the operation was in support of the steadfast Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and in solidarity with their valiant resistance.
The exchange of fire between Hezbollah and the Israeli military along Lebanon’s southern border has been ongoing since October when Hezbollah fired rockets at Israel in support of Hamas, which is engaged in conflict with Israel in the Gaza Strip.
Israeli strikes have primarily targeted the southern border region of Lebanon, although they have extended further north in recent weeks.
Last month, Hezbollah claimed it had launched rockets at the same target in the Golan Heights.
The group has used surface-to-air missiles to target Israeli aircraft on several occasions since October 7th and has also launched its own reconnaissance drones over northern Israel.
The Israeli military reported that two hostile aerial targets crossed from Lebanon into the Golan, falling in open areas.
Israeli warplanes retaliated by hitting a Hezbollah military site in the Jibbin border area and striking a Hezbollah position in the Taybeh area overnight.
Medical and security sources report that over 60 civilians have been killed in Israeli bombings in Lebanon, along with more than 200 Hezbollah fighters.
