US Army Analyst Arrested for Selling Military Secrets to China

The U.S. Department of Justice has reported the arrest of an Army intelligence analyst on Thursday for allegedly providing China with military information related to national defense.

A statement from the department revealed that Sergeant Corbin Shultz, who had a security clearance for accessing highly classified information, was detained at Fort Campbell military base, straddling the Kentucky-Tennessee border.

The indictment did not specify the country to which Shultz allegedly provided sensitive military information, but media reports have identified it as China.

According to the indictment, since June 2022, Shultz has been supplying a contact in Hong Kong with documents, maps, and photographs concerning American national defense, allegedly receiving a total of $42,000 for the information.

The Justice Department noted that the leaked information included potential American responses to a military attack on Taiwan, along with details about fighter jets, helicopters, hypersonic equipment, the HIMARS rocket system, and analyses of both the U.S. and Chinese militaries.

Shultz’s indictment follows closely after the arrest of two members of the U.S. Navy in California, charged with espionage for China.

In January, Navy Petty Officer Wenheng Zhao was sentenced to 27 months in prison after pleading guilty to conspiring with a foreign intelligence officer and accepting bribes. Zhao was arrested in August alongside Jinchao Wei, another Navy serviceman also implicated in the case.
