As part of the weekly tracking of the latest developments at the Grand Egyptian Museum (GEM), today, Ahmed Issa, the Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, held an extensive video conference meeting.
The meeting was attended by Major General Atef Moftah, the general supervisor of the Grand Egyptian Museum project and the surrounding area, Major General Hisham Shaarawy, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Treasures Company, Ahmed Obaid, the Minister’s assistant for the Minister’s Office affairs, Dr. Tayeb Abbas, Assistant Minister for Archaeological Affairs at the Museum, Yemeni Bahar, Assistant Minister for Artistic Affairs, Dr. Hussein Kamal, Director General of Restoration Affairs, and Dr. Yasmine Sabry, a representative of the companies implementing the museum’s exhibition hall preparation.
During the meeting, there was an emphasis on the steady progress of the work at the museum, confirming that it is proceeding according to the timelines set for its completion in accordance with the plan established last April.
The plan is to complete all remaining tasks by this coming September.
Furthermore, the meeting also covered the strategy for the placement and installation of archaeological pieces within the exhibition spaces that are now ready to receive these items in the main halls.
A team of archaeologists and restorers have begun to place an average of over 160 archaeological pieces daily, starting from last week, to achieve the accelerated schedule for completing the placement of all the archaeological pieces within the exhibition spaces.
This initiative aligns with the Grand Egyptian Museum’s commitment to open its doors to visitors in September, showcasing a rich history of Egyptian heritage in a modern and well-curated environment.
