Approximately 24 hours after the second anniversary of the Ukraine war, Josep Borrell, the High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy of the European Union (EU), suggested the imminent resolution of the conflict in the near future.
Speaking in an interview Borrell stated, “We need to do more because, in the coming months, the outcome of the conflict in Ukraine will be decided.” He emphasized that EU member states need to enhance their defense capabilities to be prepared for any potential events.
Borrell had previously predicted on 18 February that the situation in Ukraine would be resolved within three months.
During the Munich Security Conference, he remarked, “I don’t think that the officials at the highest political level, the mid-level, and the public realize that we are in a situation that requires a completely different approach.”
The European official called for a more flexible and decisive approach to the Ukrainian conflict, pointing out that the EU often hesitates on the issue of supplying new types of weapons to Kyiv. He mentioned that the EU has depleted its reserves of weapons and does not possess a magic wand to transport more shells to Kyiv.
