Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan announced a significant stride in Turkey’s air defense capabilities, with the successful maiden test flight of the country’s first indigenous jet fighter, KAAN. Speaking at a rally in Afyonkarahisar on February 21, Erdogan hailed the achievement as a crucial milestone in the development of Turkey’s fifth-generation fighter jet.

“Today, we witnessed another proud day for the Turkish defense industry. Our national combat aircraft, KAAN, successfully completed its first flight,” Erdogan declared. He emphasized that the achievement signifies Turkey’s progress in endorsing its air defense with advanced fifth-generation warplanes and pledged continued efforts in this direction.

The statement followed the first test flight of KAAN in Ankara, where Erdogan highlighted the fighter’s capabilities by noting its similarity to F-16s and its capacity to carry the same bombs. The president expressed optimism about concluding further tests of KAAN in the near future and promised more surprises in the defense industry.

Erdogan also hinted at Turkey’s developments in unmanned aircraft, citing projects such as Akıncı and Kızılelma, promising more innovations in this field.

With local elections approaching in 38 days, Erdogan urged voters to choose candidates capable of delivering for their cities in the Century of Turkey. He criticized opposition parties for lacking meaningful projects and vision for cities, emphasizing the ruling party’s proven record of serving the nation over the past 21 years.

“As we raise the flag of the Century of Turkey in every political, economic, and military field, we will ensure that our cities keep up,” Erdogan declared, emphasizing the importance of sustainable development for Turkey’s future.
