Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf has stated that Algeria is actively encouraging Libyan parties to engage in United Nations (UN) efforts aimed at establishing the necessary conditions for conducting elections as a permanent and sustainable solution to the ongoing crisis.
In his statement, Attaf expressed optimism about the Libyan parties reaching an agreement to hold a national reconciliation conference in the city of Sirte.
Attaf emphasized Algeria’s call to Libyan factions to seize this valuable opportunity to reunite the sons and daughters of Libya, fostering unity in land, people, state, and nation.
He reiterated Algeria’s support for the Libyan parties’ genuine involvement in UN efforts to facilitate the conditions needed for organizing elections, aiming to resolve the prolonged crisis in the neighboring and esteemed country.
Earlier in February, President Abdelmadjid Tebboune emphasized the need to end all forms of foreign military presence in Libya, particularly concerning the withdrawal of mercenaries.
Tebboune stated that the use of force in Libya would only lead to the continuation and exacerbation of the crisis, endangering the future of the Libyan people.
Libya has become a haven for armed militias, terrorist groups, and criminal networks engaged in arms and drug trafficking, as well as facilitating illegal migration.
During his address, delivered on his behalf by Prime Minister Nizar Baraka at the tenth session of the meeting of the African Union high-level committee on Libya, President Tebboune renewed the call for all parties concerned with the Libyan issue to rally around this constructive path and commit to respecting Libya’s sovereignty, territorial integrity, and independence.
