In a significant diplomatic engagement, Egypt’s President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting with CIA Director William J. Burns on Tuesday, February 13, 2024, emphasizing the enduring strategic alliance between Egypt and the United States. The meeting, which also saw the participation of Major General Abbas Kamel, Director of the Egyptian General Intelligence Service, served as a platform to reaffirm the two nations’ collaborative efforts towards regional peace and stability.

Presidency Spokesman Dr. Ahmed Fahmy highlighted the constructive dialogue, noting that Burns extended U.S. President Biden’s greetings to President El-Sisi, acknowledging Egypt’s crucial role in fostering peace in the Gaza Strip. The CIA Director lauded Egypt’s initiatives to mediate a ceasefire, facilitate the release of hostages, and ensure the provision of humanitarian aid amidst the ongoing crisis.

The discussions delved into the evolving situation in Gaza, with both parties reiterating their commitment to continued consultation and coordination. The focus remains on achieving a ceasefire, safeguarding civilian lives, and pursuing the two-state solution as a means to bolster security and stability in the region. This meeting underscores the strategic importance of Egypt-U.S. relations in navigating complex geopolitical challenges and promoting peace in the Middle East.
