A missile strike targeted a US Army base in the Conoco gas field in the Deir ez-Zor province of Syria on Saturday, according to the Sputnik news agency.

The agency reported that “loud explosions were heard from inside the US Army base in the Conoco gas field in the northern countryside of the province, caused by a rocket attack that rained down on the base.”

The attack comes amid heightened tensions in the region following the US airstrikes on Iranian-backed militias in Syria on Thursday.

The US military has not yet commented on the strike.
