The International Court of Justice announced that 52 countries and 3 international organizations will provide their opinions during hearings on the legal consequences of Israeli practices in Palestinian territories. In a statement released on Friday, the Court confirmed that “public hearings will be held from February 19 to 26, on the legal consequences of Israeli practices in the Palestinian territories, including East Jerusalem.”

The 52 countries, along with the League of Arab States, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation, and the African Union, will each have thirty minutes to deliver oral statements. The hearings will commence with Palestine’s statement on February 19 and conclude with the Maldives’ statement on February 26.

On January 26, the International Court of Justice ordered Israel to take “measures to prevent the commission of acts of genocide against Palestinians and to improve the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip.” The decision was made during a session held in The Hague, Netherlands, to consider a request by South Africa urging Tel Aviv to take precautionary measures in a “genocide” case filed against Israel.

Despite the International Court of Justice’s calls for a halt to attacks against Palestinians, Israel continues its assaults on the Gaza Strip and remains distant from taking steps to end the humanitarian tragedy.
