The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the High National Election Commission (HNEC) in Libya, Imad al-Sayeh, confirmed that the commission is 70% ready, practically and logistically, to hold elections this year.

In a press statement, al-Sayeh said that the remaining percentage of readiness depends on the electoral laws, stressing the need for a single government to assume responsibility for logistical and security supervision of the electoral process. He emphasized that they have no fundamental observations on the electoral laws.

Al-Sayeh added that the success of the UN efforts to hold elections this year depends on the acceptance of the political parties. He said that the candidacy of Saif al-Islam Gaddafi for the presidential elections will be decided by the judiciary.

The Chairman of the Board of Directors of the HNEC in Libya explained that the electoral process depends on the seriousness of the new government, if formed, in supporting the elections. He pointed out that the whole matter revolves around this government, which must commit to what it was tasked with to support the Election Commission.
