EU’s top diplomat, Josep Borrell, emphasized the urgent need for additional ammunition for Ukraine as EU defense ministers gear up for a forthcoming meeting.

“The purpose of the meeting is precisely that — to have a clear understanding of the situation and the commitments,” Borrell told journalists.

“The Ukrainians need more ammunition. There is a big imbalance on the fire capacity from one side to the other.”

Borrell highlighted the importance of maintaining and demonstrating unwavering support for Ukraine, underscoring the necessity to assess the current situation and set clear expectations for the upcoming months and the end of the year.

In a related development on January 30, French President Emmanuel Macron called on European leaders to expedite their support for Ukraine, highlighting the significant implications of a potential Russian victory for Europe.

During his visit to Sweden, Macron stressed the importance of increasing the scale of assistance to Ukraine in the coming months.

EU leaders are scheduled to convene in Brussels on February 1 at the European Council meeting to deliberate on aid for Ukraine as the conflict nears its two-year mark.

In other news, Politico has reported, based on information from multiple sources, that Ukraine is set to receive a new long-range precision-guided bomb from the U.S. this week.

Developed by Boeing, this advanced weapon can cover a distance of approximately 150 kilometers and is equipped with a 110-kilogram bomb.

Although the Biden administration authorized the transfer of this weapon to Ukraine last year, it required testing in the U.S. before deployment. This addition is expected to enhance Ukraine’s capability to conduct strikes deep within Russian-controlled territories.
