Sultan bin Ahmad Al Jaber, the UAE Minister of Industry and Advanced Technology and the President of the 28th Conference of the Parties (COP28), highlighted the pivotal role of science in revealing the historic climate progress achieved at COP28.

Speaking at the 60th session of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) in Istanbul, Al Jaber credited science with uniting parties around a roadmap for change that could maintain the global warming threshold at 1.5 degrees Celsius within reach.

This roadmap also aims to ensure adaptability to the expanding phenomena and impacts of climate change globally and to facilitate a just transition for all.

Al Jaber stated, “If we listen to science, we can build a world where emissions decrease, prosperity expands, and social and economic growth includes everyone.

Climate resilience would be a reality everywhere.” He emphasized the commitment of the COP28 presidency to work closely with the IPCC, encouraging an integrated, multi-sectoral approach informed by science for decision-making in all areas.

This statement reinforces the UAE’s position as a leader in addressing climate change, underscoring the nation’s dedication to collaborative, science-based approaches for sustainable global development.

Al Jaber’s remarks at the IPCC session reflect a continued focus on integrating scientific understanding into practical climate action and policy-making, aligning with the overarching goals of COP28 and the broader international efforts to combat climate change.
