Today, the city of Newcastle in England witnessed large-scale demonstrations organized by protestors in support of Palestine and calling for a ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
In a related development, the Spanish newspaper “Periodico” reported that approximately 25,000 people took to the streets in support of Palestine in Madrid, Spain’s capital. The protests, organized by the Spanish Network of Solidarity against the Occupation of Palestine (RESCOP), were held under the banner “Stop the Genocide in Palestine” and also took place in other Spanish cities including Barcelona, Valencia, and Seville.
According to the newspaper, citing city authorities, the march in Madrid saw the participation of around 25,000 people in the city’s center. The demonstrators, carrying banners reflecting the colors of the Palestinian flag, specifically called on the Spanish government to halt arms trade and sever ties with Israel. The participants also chanted slogans demanding the imposition of sanctions on Israel.
The Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip has now entered its fourth month, with Israel continuing its invasion and bombardment of the area. This has resulted in tens of thousands of civilian casualties and has plunged the residents of Gaza into dire humanitarian conditions.
The demonstrations in Newcastle, England today mirror the global concern over the situation in Gaza, as protestors voice their support for Palestine and demand an immediate halt to the hostilities.
