Romanian farmers have closed the border checkpoint at the shared border with Ukraine.
According to the Ukrainian State Border Guard Service, the movement of trucks through the Romanian checkpoint “Ceriț,” located across from the Ukrainian town of “Borobne,” has been prohibited, with Romanian farmers blocking truck traffic at the checkpoint.
In a related context, Polish farmers, who had previously closed the border with Ukraine at the “Medyka” checkpoint, have suspended their protest activities.
Farmers in Slovakia, Poland, and Romania have been protesting what they see as an unwise policy followed by the European Union, which allows for the sale and transit of lower-priced Ukrainian agricultural products, causing losses for farmers in these countries.
At the same time, the passage of passenger cars, buses, and pedestrians is carried out as usual, the State Border Guard Service points out.
Romania has become one of the key countries for the transit of Ukrainian products after the start of Russia’s full-scale invasion of Ukraine and the blockade of sea routes.
Its role increased after Polish truckers started a blockade of Ukrainian trucks on border crossing points in late November. They were sporadically joined by Slovakian truckers.
At the end of December, it was reported that the governments of Ukraine and Poland agreed on an action plan to unblock the border, but there has not yet been a complete unblocking.
