Brussels Airlines announced that it will cancel between 70 and 80% of its flights scheduled for Saturday due to a sudden strike by pilots and cabin crew.

The company’s spokesperson said, “We regret the call by the pilots’ unions to a surprise strike. We call on them to join us at the negotiating table to continue the discussions and prevent avoidable damage to Brussels Airlines.” She added, “We apologize to all affected passengers,” without commenting on the employees’ demands.

Pilot unions called for a 24-hour strike starting Saturday, demanding that non-salary benefits be linked to inflation.

Another union called on cabin crew to join the pilots’ strike to demand “salary increases” and a better distribution of working hours, according to a statement.

Brussels Airlines, a subsidiary of the German Lufthansa Group, operates around 40 aircraft serving around 85 destinations. The company experienced a major strike in June 2022 that included pilots, flight attendants, and ground staff, which disrupted its flights.
