French Foreign Minister Catherine Colonna stated in an interview with CNN on Friday that Israel has no right to determine the future of Gaza.
She criticized calls for the displacement of Gaza’s population, describing them as “irresponsible.”
Colonna emphasized that Gaza is “Palestinian territory” and stressed the need to return to the principles of international law and respect them.
She considered the calls to resettle Gaza’s population outside the territory as “moving us further away from a solution” and highlighted that “Gaza and the West Bank should together be part of the future Palestinian state.”
Israeli Finance Minister Avigdor Smotrich had previously stated that Israel should not accept a situation where a million Palestinians live in Gaza, adding that the number of Palestinians who will remain in the territory will determine how to address the issue after the conflict ends.
Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir also expressed support for the idea of resettling Gazans abroad, emphasizing that the war presents an “opportunity to focus on encouraging the emigration of Gaza residents.”
In her statements to CNN, the French Foreign Minister expressed her support for a two-state solution to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.
Colonna also reaffirmed her country’s commitment to preventing any further escalation of the situation by any party, including in neighboring regions such as Lebanon and the Red Sea.
